Mother’s day is celebrated to honor motherhood all around the world. Many of us know when is Mother’s day as it usually falls on the second week of May every year (or when we start seeing the florist ads all around again).
But did you know that celebrating this special occasion can be traced back as far back as the ancient Greeks and Romans, who held festivals known as “Mothering Sunday”?
Here come the facts to impress:
Mother’s day was officially recognized in the 19th century when a woman named Ann Reeves Jarvis of West Virginia helped starting “Mother’s Day Work Clubs” to teach local women how to properly care for their children in the United States. After her death, her daughter Anna Jarvis fought to include Mother’s day in the national calendar of the US as a way of honoring the sacrifices mothers made for their children. That’s when this day became known officially as Mother’s day.
Anna Jarvis did not get married or have any children. Yet, she recognized the achievements of motherhood by drawing attention to women. In the chic spirit of Feminism all around us these days, she was a true fighter of her time, recognizing the dedication and hardship of being a mother.
For this Mother’s day, we want to recognize the importance of woman in our society. There are millions of women who are not famous, or will never have the chance to be heard, but who make a profound difference in the life of their children. Many of them make incredible sacrifices and fight to raise their children, naturally wanting the best for them. Strong willed and connected with their loved little ones, they manage to go beyond, often juggling work and being a mother every day.
For this year’s mother day, we want to give back, and invite you to join us in this cause. MYKU is proud to to support a woman’s charity to empower women in challenging gender stereotypes and fighting for a better quality of life for themselves and their families.
We are proud to contribute 10% of every watch sold online to The Women’s Foundation for the month of May to celebrate this Mother’s day. This foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls in Hong Kong.
“The strength of a woman is not measured by the impact that all her hardships in life have had on her; but the strength of a woman is measured by the extent of her refusal to allow those hardships to dictate her and who she becomes.” ― C. JoyBell C.
